The Woman in White
That night, Emily couldn’t sleep.
She sat by the hotel window watching the lights of Cairo.
Then she saw something outside.
A woman in white stood across the street.
Emily froze.
It was the woman from her dream.
She blinked.
The woman was gone.
Emily ran to her parents’ room.
“Dad, wake up.”
Daniel followed her outside.
They found nothing.
But on the ground near the entrance was a small trail in the sand.
Scorpion tracks.
The tracks led toward the road.
Then stopped.
The next morning, Hassan told them something that made everything even stranger.
The old woman they had been looking for had died almost thirty years earlier.
Emily stared at him.
“That’s impossible.”
Hassan nodded.
“I know.”
Dr. Kareem had one final theory.
He believed the ancient chamber was never meant to be a tomb.
It was a place of protection.
The object taken from it had been moved from one generation to another.
And every time someone tried to bring it back, something happened.
But Emily didn’t believe the object was calling to her.
She believed something else.
“The scorpion didn’t attack me,” she said.
Everyone looked at her.
“It stopped me from walking through that doorway.”
Dr. Kareem nodded slowly.
“That is what I believe too.”
