He had made promises to two women, and now his lies were colliding in my living room.
But the worst was still to come.
Nonye opened the envelope and pulled out several documents.
“I want everybody to hear this,” she said. “Kelly told me that he had arranged everything. He said the house would be transferred before my baby arrived.”
I looked at the papers.
The address printed near the top was familiar.
It was our house.
My heart began pounding.
I reached for the first document.
Kelly grabbed my wrist.
“Don’t!”
I jerked my hand away.
“Let go of me!”
Mama Grace stepped between us.
“Kelly, if you touch her again, you will answer to me.”
He backed away, breathing heavily.
I picked up the papers.
They included a draft agreement and documents concerning the property. Some pages appeared incomplete, and I couldn’t tell whether anything had been legally finalized.
