WHEN MY HUSBAND’S PREGNANT MISTRESS CALLED ME BARREN, I PRETENDED TO BE PREGNANT—BUT SHE DIDN’T KNOW WHAT I HAD DISCOVERED

But one thing was obvious.

Kelly had been discussing the house with Nonye without telling me.

I looked at him.

“Were you planning to give her our house?”

He shook his head.

“It’s not what you think.”

“Then explain it!”

He looked at Nonye, then at his mother, and finally at me.

For several seconds, he said nothing.

Then he made a confession that changed the entire meaning of the last six years.

“I wasn’t planning to give her the house,” he said. “I was planning to sell it.”

The room went silent.

I stared at him.

“Sell our house?”

He swallowed.

“I needed money.”

“For what?”

He looked away.

And before he could answer, Nonye began sobbing uncontrollably.

“Tell her the rest, Kelly! Tell her what you promised me!”

He closed his eyes.

Then Nonye revealed something I had never imagined.

The money he had taken from our savings wasn’t simply going toward gifts, hotels, or a new life with her.
