Princess Catherine Steps Out in a Look Strikingly Similar to Queen Camilla’s — Sparking Royal Déjà Vu and a “Who Wore It Better?” Debate — Photo
The necklace had been photographed on the Queen Mother and later Camilla; the earrings had become closely associated with Diana before eventually appearing on Catherine.
So while the full-length photographs recalled Camilla’s 2012 premiere, the close-ups told a wider family story — one that stretched much further back than either purple dress.
The Fashion Echo Has Gone in Both Directions
This was not even the first time Catherine and Camilla had found themselves at the center of a royal style comparison in 2026. In January, the roles were reversed after Camilla stepped out in blue tartan only a day after Catherine wore a similarly striking tartan look.
Camilla chose a cropped Roy Allen jacket, while Catherine’s earlier outfit centered on a bespoke Chris Kerr coat. Their appearances came close enough together for the similarity to spark another round of comparisons.

But Digger carried a much stronger visual callback because the connection did not depend only on a similar print or color. Viewers could return to one specific evening from 2012 and see the earlier version of the scene almost ready-made.
Charles and Camilla had stood on a London movie-premiere carpet together as Prince and Duchess of Cornwall. Fourteen years later, William and Catherine arrived for another premiere after William had stepped into his father’s former role.
The Royal Generation Shift Was Hiding in Plain Sight
When Camilla wore the amethysts to Skyfall, William and Catherine had been married for little more than a year. Their place in the royal family still belonged to the beginning of their story rather than the position they would eventually grow into.
By the time of Digger, that early chapter was long behind them. William and Catherine were appearing not as the monarchy’s newly married younger couple, but as the pair carrying its next chapter forward.
