Rachel leaned back.
“This is ridiculous. Tyler told me everything was settled.”
Margaret looked at her.
“Then you should ask Tyler why it wasn’t.”
Rachel turned toward him.
“Tyler?”
He didn’t answer immediately.
His silence was becoming a pattern.
And for the first time, I began to wonder whether Rachel was about to discover that she had placed her trust in a man who had promised far more than he could deliver.
I waited until Tyler finished reading the documents.
Then I asked Rachel a question.
“How did you first become interested in Tyler?”
She frowned.
“What kind of question is that?”
“A simple one.”
“We worked together.”
“I know that. But how did the relationship begin?”
She glanced at Tyler again.
“We became friends.”
“When?”
“Last year.”
“And what did you know about me?”
Her eyes narrowed.
“Why does that matter?”
“Because you came to my house today and told me where I should live. You seem to know quite a lot about my family.”
