My father-in-law laughed when I walked into court alone and said I was too broke to afford a lawyer, never realizing I had spent years as a military attorney

“They appear to believe that pressure will force you to settle,” she replied. “We will address the evidence through the proper process.”

I took a breath.

“Then let’s do that.”

What I did not know was that Daniel had begun cooperating with investigators in a separate financial inquiry.

I learned this only after my attorney received notice that additional records had been produced by the company’s former financial director, who had agreed to provide testimony and authenticated business documents.

The production included a statement from Daniel.

It was not a complete confession. It was not an act of courage that erased what he had done. But it acknowledged that he had authorized certain transfers and that he had failed to disclose information when he first became aware of the disputed guarantee.

Daniel also identified meetings at which Arthur had discussed using family assets to support the company’s cash position.

For the first time, the case was no longer simply my word against theirs.
