Sarah inserted the key.
Inside were several documents, a flash drive, and a sealed letter addressed to her.
She opened the letter first.
As she read, her face drained of color.
“What is it?” I asked.
She handed me the pages.
Robert had established a trust years earlier, intended to protect Sarah’s financial security if she ever became unable to manage her affairs. The documents included instructions for independent legal oversight and a record of certain assets that had never been transferred to Jenna.
There was also a detailed warning about a business arrangement Robert had refused to approve.
The company was Whitman Development Group.
The same company David Collins had discovered in the suspicious financial records.
Sarah stared at the papers.
“Robert knew about this company.”
“Apparently.”
“But he died before any of this happened.”
I examined the dates.
Some documents were more than five years old.
Others were recent copies of records Robert had apparently kept for reference.
