My Ex’s Mother Knocked at My Door at 11 P.M. and Whispered, “I Have Nowhere Else to Go.” By Morning, My Entire Life Had Changed.

“Possibly.”

“You’re supposed to disagree.”

“I didn’t want to lie to you on our first official date.”

She stared at me.

“Official date?”

I smiled.

“Well, I did provide pancakes.”

She pushed my shoulder, laughing.

“Those were my pancakes.”

“Details.”

For a moment, everything felt wonderfully simple.

Then her phone rang.

We both looked at the screen.

Jenna.

Sarah’s smile disappeared.

She answered on speaker.

“Hello?”

Her daughter’s voice came through, sharp and furious.

“Mom, I know where you are.”

Sarah went still.

Jenna continued.

“And I know exactly what you’re doing with Mark.”

My Ex Came Looking for Trouble

Jenna arrived the following afternoon.

She stepped out of a black SUV wearing designer sunglasses and an expression that suggested the world had personally inconvenienced her.

I opened the door before she could knock.

She looked me up and down.

“Move, Mark.”

“Hello to you too, Jenna.”

“Where’s my mother?”
