“I want to do something differently.”
His expression became serious.
“When I proposed on Valentine’s Day, I focused so much on making the moment perfect that I forgot something important. I wanted you to remember the roses, the candles, and the ring. But I also wanted you to know that I could be trusted with your heart.”
He paused.
“And when things became difficult the next morning, I failed to show you that.”
I felt my eyes begin to sting.
“I can’t undo what happened,” he continued. “But I can choose how I treat you from now on. I want us to choose a ring together, one that belongs to our story. And I want you to know that when I promise you something, I won’t disappear the moment keeping that promise becomes difficult.”
I squeezed his hands.
“That means more to me than any diamond.”
He smiled.
“I was hoping you’d say that.”
