Daniel and I began discussing our wedding again, this time without rushing to make every decision at once.
We talked about our budget, the kind of ceremony we wanted, and how we hoped to include both sides of our families.
We also agreed that the question of the engagement ring needed to be handled with care.
His sister still had their mother’s ring.
Daniel had no intention of demanding it back, and I had no desire to turn a piece of family history into a symbol of resentment.
Instead, we decided to choose a new ring together.
One afternoon, Daniel surprised me by suggesting that we visit a jewelry store.
I laughed when he told me.
“Are you planning to propose to me again?”
He looked embarrassed.
“Maybe.”
“Daniel, you already asked me once.”
“I know.”
“And I said yes.”
“I remember.”
“So what’s this about?”
He took my hands.
