And for the first time that morning, I felt something other than shock.
I felt clarity.
Whatever happened next, I would no longer allow either of them to tell me what I had seen.
Once we were in the air, I connected to the plane’s Wi-Fi.
A message from Dawson, Megan’s husband, appeared almost immediately.
“Kylie, strange question. Are you traveling with Megan?”
I stared at the screen.
“No. Why?”
His reply came quickly.
“She told me you two were going to Chicago for a girls’ weekend.”
I closed my eyes.
There it was.
Another lie.
Megan hadn’t simply betrayed me. She had used my name to deceive her own husband.
I typed carefully.
“Dawson, I need to tell you something, but I want you to understand that I’m absolutely certain.”
He called through the messaging app.
I declined.
“I can’t talk right now. I’m on a plane.”
A moment later, he wrote, “Is something wrong?”
