I looked toward business class.
Ryan was pretending to read a magazine. Megan was staring at her phone.
“She’s on my flight with Ryan,” I finally typed. “I saw them kissing.”
The response took nearly a minute.
“Are you sure?”
I wanted to throw my phone across the cabin.
Instead, I answered, “I wish I weren’t.”
Then Dawson sent another message.
“She’s been telling me that you’ve been having problems in your marriage. She said she’s been helping you through a difficult time.”
I remembered Megan visiting my house three times during the previous month.
She’d brought coffee, sat at my kitchen table, and asked whether Ryan and I were still happy.
I’d told her about our arguments over his frequent travel.
I’d admitted that I sometimes felt lonely.
She’d held my hand and promised that things would get better.
Now I understood why she’d wanted to know so much.
