His smile faded slightly.
Before he could respond, I noticed the conductor walking down the aisle.
I raised my hand.
“Excuse me?”
The conductor stopped beside us. His name tag read CURTIS.
“Yes, ma’am. Can I help you?”
“Is there another seat available? I’m having a problem with the passenger beside me.”
Lucas, as I had heard the conductor call him earlier, immediately interrupted.
“She’s upset because it’s hot.”
I looked at Curtis.
“No. I’m upset because he keeps leaning against me after I’ve asked him to stop.”
Curtis turned toward Lucas.
“Sir, please respect her personal space.”
Lucas straightened in his seat.
“Of course. No problem.”
His voice suddenly became polite.
He even gave me a little smile.
“I didn’t realize it bothered her so much.”
I stared at him in disbelief.
“I’ve asked you several times.”
Curtis nodded.
“All right. I’ve spoken to him. If the problem continues, please let me know.”
