“Kevin…”
I looked at her.
“I came back early yesterday.”
The color drained from her face.
“I heard your conversation upstairs,” I continued. “I heard you say I trusted both of you. Then I watched you kiss him.”
Molly began to cry.
Kai recovered first.
“So you were spying on us?”
I laughed.
It was a short, disbelieving sound.
“I was buying groceries.”
“That’s not what I meant!”
“Then choose better words.”
He clenched his jaw.
Molly stepped forward.
“We can explain.”
“Wonderful. Start with the part where you decided my marriage was a group project.”
She flinched.
Kai threw up his hands.
“Look, things happened. We didn’t plan for this.”
“How long?”
Silence.
“How long have you been sleeping with my wife?”
Molly looked at the floor.
Kai’s jaw tightened.
“That’s between Molly and me.”
I stared at him.
“You’re right. My mistake. I should have asked the man who married her.”
