“Then please explain what I’m supposed to be guilty of.”
Molly looked at Kai.
He looked at her.
That tiny exchange told me more than either of them intended.
I stepped aside just enough to let them see the living room.
“Would you like to come in, or are we conducting this conversation like a police interrogation?”
Molly started forward.
Kai caught her arm.
“No. We’re not going inside until he explains himself.”
I raised my eyebrows.
“That’s convenient. Because I was about to ask you the same question.”
Kai’s face reddened.
“Mom says you’ve been having problems with Molly.”
“Correct.”
“And you deliberately told her something to make us look bad.”
I stared at him.
“Did I tell her you kissed my wife?”
Neither answered.
“Did I tell her you were upstairs together?”
Still nothing.
I nodded.
“Then perhaps your imagination is doing more work than I am.”
Molly covered her mouth.
