Wings Over Solitude

On a fresh page, she wrote the date.

Then she began:

“Today I turned thirty-five.

I used to think that by this age, I would have everything figured out. I imagined a beautiful career, a loving family, a home filled with laughter, and enough time to enjoy the things I worked so hard to earn.

I achieved some of those dreams. Others remain uncertain.

For a long time, I treated the things I missed as evidence that I had made the wrong choices. Today, a little girl handed me a drawing that reminded me my life is not measured only by what I have or haven’t experienced.

Maybe the real question isn’t whether I chose the perfect path.

Maybe it’s whether I am willing to keep making room for the things that matter.”

She stopped writing.

Outside, the ocean was dark, and the city lights reflected across the water.

Elena thought about Sophie holding the wings pin. She imagined the girl showing it to her family, placing it beside her bed, or keeping it in a small box of treasured things.
