WHEN MY HUSBAND’S PREGNANT MISTRESS CALLED ME BARREN, I PRETENDED TO BE PREGNANT—BUT SHE DIDN’T KNOW WHAT I HAD DISCOVERED

For the first time, she had nothing cruel to say.

Mama Grace sat down heavily.

“Kelly, how could you do this to your wife?”

He raised his head.

“Mother, I made mistakes.”

“Mistakes?” she repeated. “You brought shame into your marriage, lied to two women, and nearly lost the house your wife helped you save for. What exactly do you call that?”

He said nothing.

I wanted to cry, but the tears wouldn’t come.

I was too exhausted.

Then I noticed something on the table.

One of the documents contained a signature that looked like mine.

I picked it up.

My heart began to race.

The signature appeared beneath a statement indicating that I had agreed to certain property-related arrangements.

But I had never signed that document.

“Kelly,” I whispered, “why is my signature on this paper?”

He looked at it.

His face changed.

“It’s only a draft.”

“Did I sign it?”
