“Kelly,” Nonye said, pushing past him, “you cannot keep playing games with me!”
Mama Grace followed her inside.
I stood near the bedroom entrance, stunned.
“What is going on here?” I asked.
Nonye turned toward me.
“So this is the woman who suddenly thinks she is pregnant?”
I felt my cheeks burn.
“Please leave my house.”
She laughed.
“Your house? Let’s see how long it remains yours.”
Kelly grabbed her arm.
“Nonye, I told you not to come here!”
She pulled away.
“And I told you I was tired of hiding! You promised me that everything would be settled before the baby arrived. Now you’re telling me your wife might be pregnant?”
Mama Grace looked from Nonye to Kelly.
“What is she talking about?”
Kelly opened his mouth, but no words came out.
Nonye lifted the brown envelope.
“I’m tired of waiting. You told me you had everything prepared. You said that once I gave birth, we would finally have the home and family we deserved.”
