The Vacation of a Lifetime and The Scorpion at the Pyramid

 The Dream

That night, Emily had a dream.

She was standing in the desert.

There was no wind.

No tourists.

No noise.

Only the pyramids beneath a black sky.

Then she heard footsteps behind her.

She turned.

An elderly Egyptian woman stood several feet away.

The woman wore a simple white dress and held something in her hands.

A small golden object shaped like a scorpion.

Emily tried to speak.

“Who are you?”

The woman pointed toward the pyramid.

Then she said:

“Some doors are not opened with hands.”

Emily looked behind her.

A staircase had appeared in the sand.

It descended beneath the pyramid.

She began walking down.

At the bottom was a stone chamber.

On the wall was the same symbol she had photographed.

But now it was surrounded by hundreds of tiny carved scorpions.

In the center of the room stood a stone coffin.

Emily approached it.

Something inside whispered her name.

“Emily…”

She stepped backward.

The lid began moving.

Then the old woman appeared beside her.

“Do not open it.”

Emily woke screaming.

Laura rushed into the room.

“What happened?”

Emily was shaking.

“I had a dream.”

“About the pyramid?”

Emily nodded.

She described everything.

Laura tried to reassure her.

“It was probably because of what happened yesterday.”

But Emily didn’t answer.

She reached for her phone.

There was something she needed to check.

She opened the photograph again.

Then she zoomed in on the ancient symbol.

Her face went pale.

“Mom…”

“What?”

“I saw this in my dream.”

Laura stared at the screen.

The symbol in the photograph looked exactly like the one Emily had seen on the chamber wall.
