“I asked you to speak privately with a guest.”
“You locked the door from the outside.”
Isabel opened her mouth, but Elena continued.
“You hit me. You told me my body was the only thing I had left to offer your business partner.”
The room became silent.
The police officer asked Isabel to respond.
She laughed nervously.
“Ridiculous. She has always been dramatic.”
Elena touched the fading bruise on her cheek.
“Then explain this.”
For the first time, Isabel had no immediate answer.
Matthew’s lawyer handed the officer a preliminary medical report and confirmed that the building’s security system had recorded the visitors’ arrival and their subsequent conversation.
“We also understand that Ms. Vargas has been threatened with accusations of theft,” he added. “We would appreciate clarification regarding the documents allegedly missing from the family residence.”
Isabel stared at him.
Then she looked at Elena.
“You have no idea what you’ve done.”
