Teen Girl Brought a Cardboard Boy to Graduation – Classmates Teased Her Until She Stepped up to the Microphone

My Daughter Brought a Cardboard Boy to Graduation, and Everyone Laughed—Until She Handed the Principal a Letter That Made Him Turn Pale

The first time I saw my daughter standing in front of our hallway mirror, carefully adjusting a graduation cap on a life-size cardboard boy, I thought grief had finally pushed her to do something she would regret.

“Emma, please tell me you are not taking that thing to graduation.”

She didn’t turn around.

“His cap is crooked, Mom.”

“Emma, I’m serious.”

“So am I.”

She straightened the little blue tassel hanging over the cardboard boy’s forehead, stepped back, and examined her work. She had dressed him in a miniature graduation gown that matched hers almost perfectly. Someone looking at them from a distance might have thought they were two teenagers preparing for a school photograph.

Except one of them wasn’t alive.

The cardboard boy had dark, slightly messy hair, a crooked smile, and the same tiny dimple on his left cheek that my daughter had inherited.
