“Then why are you showing them?”
“Because you spent months making plans behind my back while allowing everyone here to believe that we were celebrating an honest marriage.”
His face turned red.
“This is insane! You can’t humiliate me like this!”
I looked at him steadily.
“Humiliation? You were willing to risk humiliating your wife, your children, and your entire family for a secret relationship. Did you imagine that the consequences would disappear simply because you kept the secret?”
He opened his mouth, but no answer came.
Then he looked at Sofia.
She stared down at the table.
“Say something!” he snapped at her.
Sofia’s lips trembled.
“I didn’t know she would do this.”
That was the moment I realized how little either of them understood what they had done.
Even now, they were more concerned about being exposed than about the people they had hurt.
