My son and daughter-in-law laughed when I walked into the courtroom. “Ha-ha, now we’re going to leave her with nothing

And in doing so, he had exposed his own son.

PART 7 — THE VERDICT

The county prosecutor arrived before noon.

The guardianship hearing was suspended while investigators reviewed the forged medical evaluation and financial records.

Curtis Hale requested permission to leave.

Judge Mercer refused.

Vanessa stopped talking.

Daniel started.

Once Daniel understood Vanessa had hidden both the Bridgemont agreement and Hale’s involvement from him, he began answering questions.

Not because he suddenly became brave.

Because people who build conspiracies around greed rarely remain loyal after the money disappears.

Daniel admitted they had exaggerated my forgetfulness.

He admitted they had changed my locks without permission.

He admitted Vanessa instructed him to describe every bruise as evidence of falls.

He admitted he had pressured me to sign financial documents.

And, most painfully, he admitted he knew I was mentally competent.

The prosecutor asked:

“Then why did you file for guardianship?”

Daniel stared at the floor.

“Because I needed money.”

No excuses.

No speeches.

Just the truth.

Judge Mercer later resumed the hearing for one purpose.

To rule on the petition.

He looked at Daniel first.

“This court is designed to protect vulnerable adults, not to make vulnerable adults out of people for financial convenience.”
