I sat beside her.
“Show me the property papers first.”
Margaret removed the deed and placed it on the table.
“Let’s start with what we know.”
The house had been purchased years earlier with funds from my father’s estate. The property records showed that ownership was in my name alone.
Tyler had acknowledged the arrangement when we purchased the house.
At the time, he had been focused on his career and had told me he was happy for us to use my inheritance to secure a home for the family.
I remembered my father’s expression when we signed the final papers.
He had placed a hand on my shoulder.
“This isn’t about keeping secrets from your husband,” he had told me. “It’s about making sure you always have a foundation beneath your feet.”
