I looked at him.
“What?”
He pointed at the signature.
“Someone forged Sarah’s signature.”
The room went silent.
Sarah looked at me.
Then suddenly she whispered:
“Emily…”
“What?”
She pointed to the bottom of the document.
There was another signature beneath hers.
A signature I recognized immediately.
My husband’s.
Liam had signed the document.
But according to the date…
he had signed it two days after he died.
I stared at the screen.
Nobody spoke.
Then my phone rang.
The caller ID showed an unknown number.
I answered.
A man’s voice whispered:
“Now you finally understand why Liam had to die.”
The call ended.
I looked at Sarah.
And for the first time since Liam’s death, I realized something even worse than the truth.
Liam hadn’t left me the evidence to solve his murder.
He had left it because he knew…
I was going to be the next one.
