She leaned against me, satisfied.
And for the first time in almost a year, I allowed myself to believe that our lives could become ordinary again.
The Consequences Arthur Never Expected
The judgment did not end every investigation into Arthur’s business.
The financial inquiry continued independently, and the company faced further scrutiny over its accounting and disclosure practices. Arthur disputed allegations concerning the transactions, and I made no attempt to influence the outcome.
I had learned the hard way that justice had to be allowed to follow its own path.
Daniel’s situation was more complicated.
He continued cooperating with investigators and provided additional records. His actions were examined separately from his father’s, and he had to accept that cooperation did not automatically absolve him of responsibility.
Our marriage, meanwhile, could not be repaired simply because the lawsuit had gone badly for Arthur.
Daniel and I attended several sessions with a family counselor to discuss co-parenting and the damage our conflict had caused. We eventually agreed to separate permanently.
