I ended the call.

For the first time, I seriously considered that the problem was not simply a failing investment.

Someone had used my name without permission. Someone had moved our savings. And everyone who knew what had happened seemed more interested in silencing me than correcting it.

I had no intention of prosecuting my family. I wanted the truth, the return of our money, and a safe future for my daughter.

But the truth was already moving toward me, whether I wanted it or not.

The Night Daniel Asked Me to Lie

The decisive moment came on a Thursday evening.

He looked exhausted.

“Dad needs you to sign something,” he said.

I did not take off my coat.
