My Ex’s Mother Knocked at My Door at 11 P.M. and Whispered, “I Have Nowhere Else to Go.” By Morning, My Entire Life Had Changed.

“She says it’s necessary to complete the sale.”

“Sarah, the house has already been transferred.”

“I know.”

“Then why does she need your signature?”

Sarah looked down at her hands.

“That’s what frightens me.”

The Message That Changed Everything

The following afternoon, Sarah received an email from the attorney who had handled the property transfer.

He wanted to meet with her urgently.

We drove to his office together.

His name was David Collins, a gray-haired man with tired eyes and a habit of removing his glasses whenever he was about to say something unpleasant.

He asked Sarah to sit down.

Then he placed a document on the desk.

“Mrs. Whitman, I need to ask you something directly. Did you authorize your daughter to sell your property?”

“No.”

“Did you sign this document?”

Sarah examined the page.

“No.”

David nodded grimly.

“That’s what I suspected.”

He explained that the paperwork contained irregularities. The authority Jenna had originally been given did not appear to cover the transaction in the way the buyer’s representatives claimed.
