My 14-year-old son grew out his hair to make a wig for his classmate who lost hers because of cancer #2

He slid the spatula beneath a pancake and flipped it.

For one glorious second, it rose into the air.

Then it folded in half and landed crookedly in the pan.

Lily laughed so hard she had to hold the table.

“That one is yours!”

Ethan scraped the pancake onto her plate.

“You’re welcome.”

She looked at it.

“It looks like a folded blanket.”

“An expensive folded blanket. I used quality ingredients.”

Jacob laughed.

I reached for the spatula.

“Want some help?”

Ethan shook his head.

“I’ve got it.”

I stepped back.

He poured another circle of batter into the pan and waited for the edges to dry.

Then he flipped it.

This time, the pancake landed perfectly.

Ethan turned toward us with a triumphant smile.

“See?”

I clapped.

Lily pointed at his apron.

“Don’t get batter on my pocket.”

Ethan looked down.

“That’s literally what pockets are for.”

“No, they’re for snacks.”
