Lily burst out laughing.
Ethan rescued it with the spatula.
“That was intentional.”
“Of course.”
She placed the paper bag on the table.
“I finished it.”
Ethan frowned.
“Finished what?”
She pulled out a blue apron.
Across the front, she had carefully sewn his name.
ETHAN.
The letters were slightly uneven, and one pocket sat higher than the other.
Ethan picked it up slowly.
“You made this?”
“With a little help.”
He examined the stitching.
“You made my name crooked.”
Lily crossed her arms.
“It’s called a personal touch.”
He slipped the apron over his head.
“How do I look?”
“Like someone who needs cooking lessons.”
“Rude.”
Jacob stepped closer and examined the apron.
“You made that pocket crooked again.”
Lily pointed at him.
“It’s my signature, Dad!”
We all laughed.
Ethan tied the apron around his waist and returned to the stove.
Then he looked at me.
“Mom, watch this.”
