And she did.
Afterward, we found the children putting costumes away.
Lily had taken off her wig because the backstage area was warm.
Ethan barely noticed.
He was too busy trying to untangle a costume from a hanger.
Lily walked toward her father.
“I saw you clapping.”
“Was I too loud?”
“A little.”
“Sorry.”
She smiled.
“I liked it.”
Jacob looked at the vest she was wearing.
“I saw what you made.”
She glanced down.
“The pocket’s still crooked.”
“I noticed.”
“Don’t say it.”
He held up both hands.
“I wasn’t going to.”
She laughed.
Then Jacob turned toward Ethan.
“Thank you for helping Lily find something she enjoys.”
Ethan shrugged.
“She’s better at it than me.”
“He’s terrible,” Lily added.
“You’re supposed to be my friend!”
“I am. That’s why I’m telling you the truth.”
They started arguing about whether Ethan had made the crooked pocket worse when he tried to help.
