Marvel has lost one of the creative minds behind Squirrel Girl. Writer and pulp historian Will Murray has sadly passed away at the age of 73

Murray co-created Doreen Green, better known as Squirrel Girl, alongside legendary Spider-Man artist Steve Ditko for MARVEL SUPER-HEROES #8 in 1991. He originally created her for an Iron Man story, unknowingly introducing a character who would eventually become one of Marvel’s most beloved and unusual heroes.

His connection to Marvel went much deeper, contributing stories and introductions across Marvel publications while also writing extensively outside comics, including decades of work involving DOC SAVAGE, THE DESTROYER, THE SHADOW and other classic pulp characters.

Will Murray spent his life loving superheroes and pulp fiction, then actually became part of Marvel history himself. Squirrel Girl will always carry a piece of his legacy with her.
