“Read it when you’re alone,” he whispered.
When I asked what he had given her, they both answered:
“Nothing important.”
But after that day, my daughter changed.
She began visiting her grandfather twice a week without telling me.
Sometimes, when she returned home, her eyes were red from crying.
One evening, I asked her:
“Lily, is Grandpa making you do something you don’t want to do?”
She turned pale.
“Why would you ask that?”
“Because you haven’t been yourself lately.”
She remained silent for a moment.
“Mom, if you ever find out something about Grandpa, promise me you won’t judge him immediately.”
“What am I supposed to find out?”
“I can’t tell you yet.”
And she walked out of the room.
I didn’t sleep that night.
A few days later, I accidentally saw a message my father had sent to my daughter.
