An investigation followed.
The evidence had been manipulated, and Daniel’s father, who worked as the supervising pharmacist, was blamed for the missing stock and the falsified records.
He insisted that he had done nothing wrong.
But the documents appeared to prove otherwise.
He lost his job, faced criminal charges, and became the subject of humiliating local news reports. Daniel tried to defend him, but the records he had collected suddenly disappeared.
His father died before he could clear his name.
Daniel believed that the stress and shame had destroyed him.
“And your father knew the truth,” my mother whispered. “He knew his own business records had been altered. He knew Daniel’s father had been blamed for something he hadn’t done.”
I felt sick.

The words died in my mouth.
