Nobody spoke.
The coffee shop suddenly felt unbearably quiet.
Peter looked at Sarah.
Emma looked at Daniel.
For weeks, they had carefully built their little plan.
Fake dates.
Fake photographs.
Fake smiles.
Fake affection.
But somewhere along the way, something real had grown between them.
And now their exes knew everything.
Sarah crossed her arms.
“You thought I wouldn’t figure it out?”
Peter swallowed.
“It wasn’t supposed to go this far.”
Sarah laughed bitterly.
“Of course it wasn’t.”
Daniel looked at Emma.
“So everything between you two was an act?”
Emma opened her mouth.
Nothing came out.
Because she couldn’t answer honestly.
Not anymore.
At the beginning, it had been an act.
But now?
Peter reached for Emma’s hand.
She let him take it.
Sarah noticed.
Her expression changed.
“That,” she said quietly, “wasn’t part of the plan.”
Peter looked at her.
“No.”
Sarah stared at their hands.
“You really fell for her?”
Peter didn’t hesitate.
“Yes.”
The word hung in the air.
Emma looked at him.
She had been afraid that Peter might say it was all a mistake.
Instead, he had chosen her.
Daniel turned toward Emma.
“And you?”
Emma took a deep breath.
“I love him.”
Daniel’s face fell.
For a moment, he looked like the man Emma had once spent four years loving.
Then he nodded slowly.
“I understand.”
Sarah wasn’t ready to accept it.
She looked at Peter.
“You were supposed to come back to me.”
Peter shook his head.
“I thought I was.”
“What changed?”
Peter looked at Emma.
“She did.”
Sarah’s eyes filled with tears.
“But you barely knew her.”
Peter smiled sadly.
“Sometimes you can know someone for years and still feel alone.”
He glanced at Emma.
“And sometimes you meet someone at the worst moment of your life, and they make you feel like you’re finally okay.”
Emma squeezed his hand.
Daniel quietly walked toward the door.
Before leaving, he turned to Emma.
“I really did love you.”
Emma nodded.
“I know.”
“Maybe I realized it too late.”
“I think you did.”
Daniel left.
Sarah remained.
She looked at Peter one last time.
“I hope she doesn’t hurt you.”
Peter smiled.
“I hope so too.”
Sarah frowned.
“What does that mean?”
“It means I’m taking the risk.”
Sarah wiped her eyes.
Then she walked away.
Peter and Emma remained at the table.
Neither spoke for several seconds.
Then Emma laughed nervously.
“Well…”
Peter smiled.
“Our plan was a complete disaster.”
Emma laughed.
“The worst plan in history.”
“And somehow the best thing that ever happened to me.”
Emma looked at him.
“Are you sure?”
Peter nodded.
“I’ve never been more sure about anything.”
He leaned closer.
Emma didn’t move away.
Their first kiss wasn’t part of the plan.
There was no camera.
No jealous ex watching.
No fake smile.
No strategy.
It was simply two people who had entered each other’s lives because they were broken…
and discovered that they could heal together.
But their story wasn’t over.
The next morning, Peter received an unexpected message.
Not from Sarah.
Not from Emma.
It was from Daniel.
The message contained only one sentence:
“You need to know what Sarah was planning before she walked away.”
Peter stared at the screen.
His smile disappeared.
Emma noticed.
“What happened?”
Peter slowly handed her the phone.
Emma read the message.
Then she looked at Peter.
“What does he mean?”
Neither of them knew.
But whatever Daniel was about to reveal…
could change everything.
