I had a baby at 79, and my children went to court to have me declared mentally incompetent—But when the judge asked who the baby’s father was, the courtroom door opened…

Susan’s attorney approached the witness stand.

“Mrs. Miller, your husband died forty-six years ago, correct?”

“Yes.”

“You never remarried?”

“No.”

“You have maintained that he died in an overseas industrial accident?”

“That’s correct.”

“And yet, three months ago, you gave birth to a daughter.”

“Yes.”

“Who is the father?”

The courtroom became silent.

I looked toward the closed doors.

My heart began beating faster.

He was supposed to be here.

I had spoken to him the night before.

He had promised me.

But forty minutes had passed.

He hadn’t arrived.

The lawyer continued.

“Mrs. Miller, isn’t it true that the father of this child is unknown?”

“No.”

“Then tell the court who he is.”

I took a breath.

“My husband.”

A murmur moved through the courtroom.

The judge leaned forward.

“Your husband?”

“Yes.”

“The same husband who died forty-six years ago?”

“Yes.”

Susan covered her mouth.

Michael shook his head.

“Mom…”

The judge looked at me carefully.

“Mrs. Miller, I need you to understand that the court is trying to establish the facts.”

“I understand.”

“Are you claiming that your deceased husband is the biological father of this child?”

“Yes.”

Susan suddenly stood.

“That’s enough!”

“Sit down,” the judge ordered.

  1. I bet there was a “sperm bank” involved!! Right? When her husband knew he was going to die, they decided to save some sperm in case she eventually wanted to have more children. So it seems she did!

    1. You’re definitely thinking in the right direction! 👀 There was something preserved from their fertility treatment years earlier—but the story explains exactly what it was and how it made the pregnancy possible. Keep reading because that part comes later. ❤️
