“My father?”
I nodded.
“My wife?”
I nodded again.
Daniel stood so abruptly that his phone nearly slipped from his hand.
“Where is he?”
“Daniel, please—”
“Where is my father?”
“At the hotel.”
He started toward his truck.
I caught his arm.
“Don’t.”
He spun around.
“Don’t what? Don’t go ask my father why he’s sleeping with my wife?”
His voice cracked on the final word.
“Your husband has his hands all over my wife, Mom!”
“I know.”
“Then why are you stopping me?”
“Because you’re hurt, and you’re furious, and I don’t want you doing something tonight that gives them a reason to make this about your reaction instead of their betrayal.”
He stared at me as if he couldn’t believe I was asking him to think clearly when our family had just been torn apart.
“How are you so calm?”
I looked down at my hands.
They were trembling so badly that I had to press them together.
