“You had months to stop it,” Daniel replied. “You had months to tell me the truth. You had months to walk away from our wedding.”
“I was confused.”
“About what? Whether you wanted to marry me or sleep with my father?”
She began sobbing.
I remembered helping her choose flowers for the ceremony. I remembered her sitting beside me in a bridal boutique, asking whether I thought Daniel would like a particular dress.
I remembered how happy my son had looked when he saw her walking toward him.
And now I wondered how many of those moments she had spent knowing something he didn’t.
Jenna finally looked at Daniel.
“We were having problems. You were always working. You were exhausted, and we barely had time together.”
Daniel stared at her.
“We were working overtime to save for a house. You knew that.”
“I know.”
“I thought we were building our future.”
