Some transfers were smaller. Others were larger.
By the time he finished, he had identified nearly nine thousand dollars moved from their shared savings into Jenna’s private account over several months.
I watched his face as the total appeared on the screen.
“Maybe some of it was for bills,” I offered carefully.
“Maybe.”
He didn’t sound convinced.
He checked the dates against the messages and calls he had found.
Some transfers had occurred shortly before hotel meetings.
Others had happened after late-night conversations between Jenna and Mark.
Daniel pushed his chair away.
“I need to stop looking at this.”
I closed the laptop.
He stood by the kitchen window for a long time before speaking again.
“She told me she wanted a simple wedding because she didn’t want us starting our marriage in debt.”
I remembered that conversation.
