And she couldn’t forget how Dorato had reacted to the noise.
He hadn’t approached the kitchen as though he were looking for food.
He had gone straight toward the cabinet.
As though he knew something was there.
The Video That Made Edoardo Go Silent
The following afternoon, Camilla decided to film Dorato.
She wanted to document his unusual behavior so Edoardo could see exactly what had changed.
She placed her phone on a shelf and began recording.
Dorato moved slowly across the floor. He stopped near her, raised his head, and then continued toward the doorway.
Camilla followed him with the camera.
“See?” she said softly. “He’s been doing this all week.”
She filmed him moving toward the kitchen, where he stopped in front of the pantry cabinet.
His head remained raised.
His tongue flicked in and out.
Then he moved along the cabinet’s edge and disappeared from view.
Camilla stopped recording.
