Yesterday, the world said goodbye to Dolly Parton — a woman whose voice, songs, generosity and unmistakable spirit became part of American life.
For me, Dolly was more personal than that. She was the singer I returned to again and again, and “I Will Always Love You” has always been the song that stayed with me most.
Her impact reached far beyond music. She gave generously, loved Tennessee fiercely, put millions of books into children’s hands, and never seemed to forget where she came from.
Dolly also loved pie.
She spoke about having chess pie instead of birthday cake, shared walnut pie as a favorite, and butterscotch pie is one of the old-fashioned Southern pies closely connected with her holiday table.
So today I’m sharing Dolly Parton’s Butterscotch Pie in her honor.
