At 80, my belly had grown so large that the doctors were left in shock. After an ultrasound, one of the doctors suspected that I might be pregnant! But

Michael laughed from the doorway.

“That’s my mother.”

I glared at him.

“You’re supposed to be on my side.”

“I am. That’s why I’m not arguing with the physiotherapist.”

I managed a few steps before returning to bed.

It was not much, but the team explained why early, assisted movement was important after surgery. They also helped me manage the pain and monitored my breathing, blood pressure, and ability to eat and drink.

Over the following days, I slowly regained my strength.

The doctors checked my incision, monitored my blood results, and made sure I could move around safely.

I was not allowed to go home simply because I wanted to.

They needed to be satisfied that my pain was controlled, that I could walk with appropriate support, that I could eat and drink, and that there were no signs of a serious complication.

I disliked every minute of the waiting.
