Ryan: “Relax. She doesn’t know about them.”
I stared at the screen.
Pictures?
What pictures?
I hadn’t opened the conversation, but the preview was enough to make my stomach tighten.
I knew I shouldn’t jump to conclusions.
Then a third notification appeared.
Megan: “I sent you the ones from last weekend. Don’t forget to save them somewhere safe.”
I felt cold.
Last weekend.
Ryan had been home last weekend.
He’d spent Saturday morning helping Oliver build a model airplane. He’d taken Declan to baseball practice and sat beside me on the sofa that evening while we watched a movie.
He’d kissed my cheek before bed.
And apparently, he’d also been exchanging intimate photographs with my best friend.
I closed my eyes.
I didn’t want to see the pictures.
I didn’t need to see every detail of their private lives to understand what was happening.
But I needed to preserve the messages that showed the affair wasn’t some moment of weakness.
