“Kylie?”
I looked up.
“Hello, Ryan.”
He glanced toward business class, then back at me.
“What are you doing here?”
The question was so absurd that I almost laughed.
“My mother is in the hospital.”
“What?”
“She became dizzy. Harold called me.”
Ryan stared at me.
For one brief moment, he seemed genuinely concerned.
“Is she all right?”
“The doctors are monitoring her.”
He reached for my hand.
I pulled it away.
“Please don’t touch me.”
His eyes moved toward the passengers sitting nearby.
“Kylie, we need to talk.”
“About what?”
He swallowed.
“Please.”
I studied his face.
This was the man who had kissed me goodbye that morning. The man who had promised to call our children. The man who had spent years telling me that honesty was the foundation of our marriage.
And now he was standing in front of me, looking embarrassed because I’d discovered his secret.
