Delia’s paintings became connected to Adrián’s writing.
Adrián would sometimes bring his poems to her exhibitions, giving voice to the emotions that her paintings expressed visually.
She, in turn, contributed her artwork to his books and creative projects.
Their relationship became a collaboration.
One expressed feelings through color and images.
The other expressed them through words.
Together, they created something that belonged to both of them.
But their marriage was not protected from life’s painful moments.
In 2009, Delia faced an especially difficult period.
She underwent a series of medical procedures.
Her hip.
Her knee.
Her eyes.
Her gallbladder.
In total, she went through eight operations.
For someone who had already spent decades living an active life, the repeated hospital stays were physically and emotionally exhausting.
Adrián remained by her side as much as possible.
The experience changed the rhythm of their lives.
There were days when they could not simply go out together, attend an exhibition, or work on their artistic projects.
Instead, there were hospitals, recovery periods, appointments, and uncertainty.
But those difficult years also revealed another side of their relationship.
Love was no longer just about letters, conversations, paintings, poems, or romantic moments.
It was about staying.
