Wings Over Solitude

For a moment, she considered deleting the entire thing.

What if people misunderstood?

What if someone accused her of complaining about a life she had chosen?

What if admitting that she sometimes felt lonely made her seem ungrateful?

Then she remembered the little girl in row twelve.

Elena pressed publish.

She put the phone away and returned her attention to her work.

She had no idea that, while she was preparing for the descent, her words were beginning to reach people she had never met.

The approach into Miami was smooth.

As the aircraft descended, Elena and Marcus completed their procedures, monitored their instruments, and communicated with air traffic control.

Then, shortly before landing, the controller’s voice came through the radio.

“Airline flight, cleared for the approach. And, Captain Brooks, if I may add one thing on behalf of the team here, happy birthday.”

Elena blinked.

Marcus suddenly became very interested in his instruments.
