WILL YOU STAY?“Will you stay?” Those three words stopped me colder than any threat ever could because they came from Emilio Corsaro

But she had never trusted anyone enough to reveal the evidence.

Instead, she divided it between two keys.

One stayed with Eleanor.

The other stayed with me.

Together, they opened the safe.

My mother had spent nineteen years waiting for the right moment.

Then Emilio looked at me.

“I owe you an apology.”

“For what?”

“For asking you to stay.”

I remembered that night.

“Why?”

“Because I wasn’t asking you to be a cleaner.”

He looked at the evidence.

“I was asking you to stay long enough for the truth to find you.”

Rafe suddenly lunged toward the safe.

But before he could reach it, the conservatory doors opened.

Police officers entered.

Behind them was a woman.

She was older than the girl in the photograph.

But I knew her immediately.

Eleanor.

She looked at Emilio.

For several seconds, neither of them spoke.

Then Emilio dropped his cane.

He walked toward her.

Without it.

One step.

Then another.

Eleanor began crying.

“Dad.”

Emilio stopped.

His face crumbled.

“I thought you were dead.”

“So did I.”

They embraced.

I turned away, giving them the privacy they deserved.

Rafe was taken away.

The evidence from the safe was enough to begin an investigation into years of financial crimes, forged medical records, and the attempted poisoning.
