WHEN MY HUSBAND’S PREGNANT MISTRESS CALLED ME BARREN, I PRETENDED TO BE PREGNANT—BUT SHE DIDN’T KNOW WHAT I HAD DISCOVERED

Instead of telling me the truth, he had borrowed more.

Then he began using our savings to make repayments.

He had kept hoping that one successful deal would solve everything before I discovered the truth.

But the debts had grown beyond what he could manage.

“Why didn’t you tell me?” I whispered.

He looked at me.

“Because I was ashamed.”

I shook my head.

“So you decided to risk our home instead?”

“I thought I could fix it.”

“And what does Nonye have to do with the house?”

He looked at her.

She answered for him.

“He told me that if he sold the house, he could clear his debts and buy another property. He said he would put the new house in my name so that nobody could interfere with our family.”

I looked at Kelly in disbelief.

“You were going to sell the house we saved for together, pay your debts, and then put another house in her name?”
