WHEN MY HUSBAND’S PREGNANT MISTRESS CALLED ME BARREN, I PRETENDED TO BE PREGNANT—BUT SHE DIDN’T KNOW WHAT I HAD DISCOVERED

When she opened the door, she immediately noticed something was wrong.

“What happened to you?”

“Nothing.”

“Ella, I’ve known you for twelve years. Don’t tell me nothing when your eyes are swollen.”

I broke down.

She pulled me inside, locked the door, and allowed me to cry until I could speak.

When I told her everything, she became so angry that she stood up and began pacing around the living room.

“Your husband allowed another woman to call you barren?”

I nodded.

“And he slapped you?”

I looked down.

Amaka knelt in front of me.

“Listen carefully. You are not less of a woman because you haven’t had a child. And you do not deserve to be beaten because your husband has decided to betray you.”

Her words made me cry again.

For the first time in days, somebody was reminding me that I still had value.

Then Amaka asked me something that changed the direction of our conversation.
