She looked at Daniel.
“Daniel helped me find the woman who used to alter Grandma’s clothes years ago. We wanted to have the dress restored.”
I looked at my husband.
“And that’s why you were talking about her figure?”
Daniel closed his eyes for a moment.
“Yes… and now I realize how badly I chose my words.”
Emily started laughing.
“Mom, for months I kept saying that my body didn’t look right in this dress. Daniel was just trying to convince me there was nothing wrong with me. The dress simply needed to be altered.”
Suddenly, every strange conversation, every look, and every silence began to make sense.
But there was still one thing I didn’t understand.
Daniel handed the little box to Emily.
“And this is the real surprise.”
Emily opened it.
Inside was a small silver pendant.
My mother’s pendant.
I hadn’t seen it since the day she died.
My eyes immediately filled with tears.
“Where did you find that?”
Daniel answered softly:
“Your father had kept it. I asked him to send it to us.”
Emily put the pendant around her neck.
Then she stood in front of me wearing my mother’s dress and her necklace.
